Volunteers

The Canberra Marathon is recognised as one of Australia's best organised events. One of the reasons for this is our amazing
team of volunteers. We encourage you to join our volunteer team so you too can be part of Canberra's annual marathon.

We have vital roles available in areas such as logistics, expo assistants, merchandise assistants, marathon race pack distribution, personal refreshments, late entries, race marshals, drink stations, finish line marshals, communications, catering and recovery area assistants.

Our events cover the whole weekend ~ starting with the expo and Marathon Eve 5km and 10km Fun Run on Saturday and the
Marathon, 50km Ultra and Kids Marathon on Sunday.

Volunteering offers a variety of valuable workplace skills such as teamwork, communication skills, important training and willingness to work out of business hours. Although the volunteer role is unpaid, the experience is one to enjoy.

We will be conduct a volunteer training night on the Wednesday evening prior to race weekend (7 April) and will keep in regular contact with you via email and our e-newsletters.

 Thanking Our Volunteers

As a thank you, each volunteer receives an official souvenir tshirt and runner recognition for supporting them in their endeavour to reach their own personal goal.

We also provide all our volunteers with a copy of our race program, so you can call out the runners' names as they go past... here's a sample of how much this is appreciated by the runners:

The best reward for all our volunteers is not what we can provide but the feedback from the runners. They are annually unanimous in their praise for our volunteers. The do a great job, they know their job and "how come they know my name?" We equip our volunteers with ALL the tools you need to do your job on the day and the runners recognise it in their praise. Here's a sample:

"The volunteers, too, were just amazing. If I don't run next year, I will be definitely offering myself as a volunteer. Their dedication to their role and constant encouragement was just fabulous. I would love to extend my thanks to each and every one of them. Their support does not go un-noticed and I know I represent many other runners when I write this."

"Please thank the volunteers who were so encouraging all the way around the course. The wonderful woman volunteer who held me upright on the finish line for so long when my legs got a bad case of the wobbles was so kind and patient - she even took my timing chip off!

"....... all your volunteers were awesome. They deserve every runner's gratitude. They are very generous people."

"During the latter, extremely painful, final stages of the marathon, your teams at the drinks tables and course marshals were shouting encouragement which was great, their enthusiasm typified the event - an absolutely memorable experience, I'm so glad I chose this event as my first one."

"The volunteers were fabulous, as usual. The trouble they go to and the time they give up is very much appreciated. And the things they do that they might think are minor, like finding a hidden drink bottle or asking us to sit down while they untie and retie our shoelace to retrieve the time chip at the end of the ultra, are just super! Unfortunately we don't say 'thank you' enough to all of them while we're running."

"Great event. extremely well organised and a big thank you to all the volunteers who manned the drink stations. Great work from the guy who had Jimmy Barnes music coming out of the car at his sponge/water station. "
